Here are my top ten favourite TV couples ever. *Spoiler alert*
10.
Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady - Sex and the CityI think that of all the characters on S.A.T.C., Miranda is the one I relate to the most - stubborn, cynical, independent, opinionated. I always found Carrie, the lead, to be a little superficial and irritating (translation: airhead) and even when I did warm to her, I always preferred her with Aidan to Big anyway. But Miranda and her relationship with Steve was very sweet and honest and I like that the hard, lawyer exterior was slowly broken down by the nerdy, down-to-earth barman. It made me very sad that he cheated in the first movie. Took all the gloss off the relationship and I couldn't like him after that.
9. Maggie Greene and Glenn Rhee - The Walking Dead
For all of the blood and gore and death and heartbreak in this show, Maggie and Glenn were a beacon of light. It's such a sweet relationship that grew from nothing. I love the slow burn that happened with them - very realistic. It was heartbreaking to see that destroyed in Season 7 and realise that Maggie was going to have to raise their child in this horrible environment by herself, with literally none of her family left. :(
3. Natalie Manning and Will Halstead - Chicago Med
This relationship is so sweet. The best releationships are built on friendship and that is at the heart of Natalie Manning and Will Halstead's relationship. I like this coupling so much that I'm actually getting ahead of myself. They are not even officially a couple yet but this is one of my biggest TV ships so far (I can't believe I'm using that terminology!).
7. Joey Jeremiah and Caitlin Ryan - Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High
The biggest travesty in TV history was to finish a TV series with the 'cat and mouse couple' getting together at the end of the high school series and then rip them apart in the crappy movie! Degrassi fans hated the movie because what they had waited for was thrown back in their faces in a movie that was kind of pointless in the end anyway. The Caitlin-Joey saga was hilarious in its cheesiness but has obviously stood the test of time as I believe they keep reappearing in the Next Generation series. I mean, how could forget the opposites attract nature of the skunk-haired political activist girl and the 'immature but cool' boy with the skateboard?! They were so mismatched but that's what made it so cute.
6. Emma Swan and Killian Jones - Once Upon A Time
Who would have thought that Captain Hook from Peter Pan would ever be a love interest? And a hot one at that! The relationship that everyone thought would be at the centre of Once Upon A Time has taken a bit of a backseat to Emma and Hook because everyone is rooting for the damaged soul and the dashing pirate, not the predicable fairytale coupling of Snow White and Prince Charming (although I do love them too and they do get an honorable mention). The fact that the once bad pirate broke down cynical Emma Swan's walls is quite similar to Miranda and Steve in Sex and the City - it's an unlikely coupling and I love it. :)

5. Doug Ross and Carol Hathaway - E.R.
4. Lynda Day and Spike Thompson - Press Gang
I loved this show when I was a kid (see my earlier blog entry on Down With Pants) and partly because I loved the spunky dialogue between the rebellious American Spike and the authoritarian A-student Lynda and the subsequent flirty undertones throughout. The hilarious on-again, off-again romance is part of what makes the show so compelling and what drove many of the storylines right from the first episode. My favourite Spike and Lynda moment was in Season 4 when Spike returns from the USA and 'surprises' Lynda on a children's television show. Classic dialogue!
3. Dawn Tinsley and Tim Canterbury - The Office UK
Anyone who says the US version of the Office is better than the UK original is an idiot, as far as I'm concerned. If there's one thing the US don't do well in TV, it's subtlety which was the whole point of the UK version. This very sweet, slowburning relationship between the sales rep and the receptionist was at the centre of this hilarious show. It was done so well, from the sneaky glances, the subtle flick of the eye in each other's direction and the very noticeable chemistry between Martin Freeman and Lucy Davis. The ending of the Christmas episode was so friggin' sweet with the note on the Secret Santa present (Unlike Pam and Jim in the US version which basically hit you over the head with a sledgehammer: "THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!!!"). Anyway, rant over!
2. Ross Geller and Rachel Green - FriendsHow can you go past these two? The ongoing drama of Ross and Rachel became a huge part of this show and formed a huge part of the finale as a result. I think it is based around the philosophy that there really is one person for us and you will always come back to that person if they are the one for you. Who can forget the episode when they split up (the 'we were on a break' episode). I will never be able to listen to U2's 'With or Without You' the same way.
1. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully - The X Files

Never in TV have a pair of actors had as much chemistry as David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. And it's not because I'm biased (because it's my fave show). I don't think the audiences would have stuck with the show for nine seasons without it. The fact that they could be one of the best pairings around and not even lock lips until Season 7 (and even then, it was a New Year kiss) is testament to the chemistry they created by a look, a hug or a single touch. It is very sweet and I think this is why the series lasted even without David D. as the chemistry continued in Gillian Anderson and her character's struggle to cope without Mulder. I think the message given is that the best relationships/the ones that last are the ones rooted in intensity of friendship, of extreme trust and of deep respect and that's why I think they are the best TV couple around.
Honourable mentions will go to: Snow/Mary Margaret and Charming/David/Prince James in Once Upon A Time (the first season was adorable!), Will and Grace (for the kooky friendship and proves that your soulmate doesn't have to be the person you marry), Chuck and Ned from Pushing Daisies (the plastic bag scene!), Max and Logan from Dark Angel, Kurt and Blaine (Glee), and Jamie and Paul (Mad About You)
Dishonourable mentions go to any couples from the following shows for its extreme unrealistic soppy and cheesy teen relationships: The OC, Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars....
