Here are my top 10 favourite blog sites. None of them are serious! :)
10. Clients From Hell http://clientsfromhell.net/
This blog posts ridiculous help desk requests/phone calls and emails from clients of people working specifically in the IT/design areas. It is hilarious and I can just picture the provider on the other end of the phone's expression at some of the requests they get. Here's an example that was posted on the site a few days ago:
Client - The site isn't accepting a date I'm trying to put in
Me - What date is that?
Client - November 31st 2014.
Me -Oh, that’s because that’s not a valid date.
Client - What do you mean “not a valid date?” It’s an annual event and an important date to me. What’s changed that it’s no longer “valid?”
Me - November only has 30 days. Always has, as far as I know.
Client - …you should put a note on the website to avoid these situations.And they get so much worse! I've heard some horror stories from IT nerds that I know about help desk enquiries and a lot of them probably feature here!
9. The Oatmeal http://theoatmeal.com
This guy respects grammar and spelling. A man after my own heart! He has a whole section dedicated to grammar! My favourites are the posters on 'Irony', the use of the word 'literally' and the misspelled words. But I also like his other posters like the 'What I Remember About Lego' piechart, Angry Birds likeability and Juicy Fruit chewing gum disappointment! I have been tempted on many occasions to buy copies of the posters, especially the one about printers which we could pin up in the office next to our printer we have nicknamed Bob Marley cos he's always jammin'. The Oatmeal also makes quite funny birthday cards that you'd only give to people who really understand your sense of humour!
8. Reasons My Son is Crying www.reasonsmysoniscrying.com/
This site features children crying. Win! This is a very funny concept. People post photos of their children crying and post the reason why. Some are ABSURD. Reasons such as "I told him he couldn't eat the bleach" or "I told her she couldn't marry Daddy or her brother." Usually the pictures are accompanied by evidence of the reason for their tears. It is so funny! Kids are ridiculous! And here's the proof!
7. Damn You Autocorrect http://www.damnyouautocorrect.com/
This is one of those sites that makes me laugh out loud regularly, often at work *hides in shame*. The ones I love are where the phone simply will not let them correct the problem or when some of the words that come up are so bizarre, it's a wonder it predicted the word to begin with, as the texter would have had to use that word at least once for it to store it in the memory, surely?? Like this one!
The only reason I haven't posted this blog higher in my top 10 is that I KNOW some of them have been faked. Autocorrect is a bit ridiculous, I know, but it doesn't autocorrect to words that don't use the same letter patterns or at least start with the same letter - there is a logical reason for why it corrects to certain words (the same letter pattern or on a number touch pad, it may be the letter group). For an example, one that reads 'Dad is painting his balls....I meant nails' is clearly faked. There is no way balls would automatically divert to nails. Bails yes, nails no! Some people are just attention seekers. But a lot of them are so funny and you can just sense the frustration the texter must have felt! Even funnier are the ones to parents from their teenagers!
6. My Husband Is Annoying http://myhusbandisannoying.com/
This is a blog written by a very funny lady who posts exactly what the title says: annoying things her husband does. It is quite obvious that she does, in fact, really love her husband and this blog is probably the reason she's still with him. Getting to vent about his frustrating habits is probably keeping her sane! Those habits include but aren't limited to the latest post - not filling the car with petrol and leaving it with a petrol light blazing for her to deal with first thing in the morning. Or leaving balled up tissues in his pockets so they go through the washing machine. And some of the submissions from other readers and followers are equally funny, especially one who says her husband sneaks items into the shopping cart that he doesn't even want or need (like pickled pigs feet and mock caviar) just to annoy her! It is very very funny to read. It would rate higher if she posted more often but the blog hasn't been updated in months.
5. The Bad Baby Names Blog http://turabiannights.blogspot.com.au/
Everybody who knows me will know that I get a kick out of other peoples' terrible baby names and I judge them accordingly. I love reading about people who called their kids 'No 17 Bus Shelter' or 'Tallulah Does the Hula In Hawaii' or even simpler ones like spelling a perfectly normal name like Sarah with four Ds and a silent Q. My friend used to send me regular emails with names she'd see on pharmacy scripts all the time and some were brilliant! I wish this blog existed then! So this kind of thing is RIGHT up my alley! I have always been a fan of the forum "Baby's Named A Bad Bad Thing but to be honest, design-wise, the forum bothers me. This is much more aesthetically pleasing! The blogger is very sarcastic and mocks the people who write on her site with terrible but serious name suggestions. We speak the same language. This is the first line of their most recent post....
Essex. So romantic. So melodic. Oh, to be named after the exotic realm of Essex.I love sarcastic people.
4. This Is Why You're Fat http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/
This is a blog which posts really revoltingly fatty foods for all to see. Such as deep fried corn soup! I know, that's what I thought too! Soup??? Sadly, I thought this was only in America but unfortunately, at least one has made an unfortunate appearance in Oz too: The Cronut.
My particular favourite is the burger/sandwich made out of all the $1 items you can buy at McDonalds, including chocolate chip cookies and yoghurt. Disgusting. And very amusing!
There's grilled cheese donuts, breakfast waffle tacos, patties with cheese on the inside, chicken tenders in batter with syrup and grilled cheese chocolate chip cookie sandwiches! In the words of Homer Simpson - mmmm, fattening....
3. Animals Being Dicks http://animalsbeingdicks.com/
The descriptor for this site says it all: silly gifs of animals being jerks. Animals are unintentionally hilarious, especially cats when they are on their mad hour and there are plenty of those in this Tumblr. My favourite is the show jumping dog who stops midway through a run to take a crap on the fake grass. Or the panicking, bolting cat that scares the crap out of security guards. Or the husky having a great ol' time in a giant pile of leaves while his owner just pisses himself laughing! Things like this make me smile so much! There are four hundred million reasons why fur babies are better than human babies. And this is just one reason why!
2. Dog Shaming http://www.dogshaming.com/
I wish my old dog Tommy was still alive. He would have featured a number of times on this blog; from when he tried to eat a whole squid live to when he crapped on somebody's beach towel to when he had diarrhea in the back of the family Kombi. This blog asks people to post pictures of their dogs after said canine has been very naughty and place a sign underneath them 'admitting their guilt'. Hilarious! My favourite one is the dog who ate a whole corn cob and cost her owner $500 in vet bills trying to understand why she was sick, only for the pooch to crap it out the next day! The dogs in a lot of the pictures actually look ashamed and some are pictured with the evidence (half eaten couches, destroyed credit cards, smashed statues, urine stained carpets, the works!). I wish I was around to take a photo the day Mum's Labradoodle ate all of her dozen or so solar garden lights ten minutes after she installed them in the garden. He would have gone straight to this site!
1. Des Hommes Et Des Chatons (Men and Kittens) http://deshommesetdeschatons.tumblr.com/
This blog is GOLD and I think it might be my favourite site going around at the moment! It's the kind of blog that melts your heart. It pairs cute cats and sexy men (mostly celebrities and hot models) side by side in similar poses! Some are hilarious, especially the wet t-shirt and pouring rain shots. Some are very similar poses, others are just implied. But all of them are funny. This is the millenium's answer to a firemen calendar!
Whoever thought of this idea was a genius! If I'm feeling down, I'll check out this site and I'm smiling again, no matter how bad I feel! And they update regularly which is always a bonus! I think we have a winner!
Hon mentions go to: Fake Science (http://fakescience.org), Fail Blog, The Onion and The Shovel. And narrowly missing out on the top 10 was Santa Cry Baby (a blog which celebrates the joy of seeing children cry on Santa's lap and have their photo taken regardless!). The reason the latter missed out was that it's a bit same old, same old. But a great concept nonetheless.
